The aims of this team are : More than 800 000 people die by suicide every year (WHO, 2014). Direct costs of suicides (S) and Suicides Attempts (SA) amounted to of nearly 10 billion euros each year (2009). This was more important than for strokes with much higher research investment about strokes. All risk factors for S & SA are higher in overseas French department than continental France. The high frequency of suicides in French Polynesia (FP), in French Guyana (FG) and in Reunion Island (RI) (crude rate 13/100.000, higher than the world average, the leading cause of death among young adults), and suicide attempts (SA, 110/100.000) leads local psychiatric teams to develop prevention fitted to local conditions. To provide epidemiological data on suicide behaviors in the French TOM, including the elicitation of new indicators of suicidal behaviors, in complement to CÉPIDC mortality data. In the long run, the goal is to build a surveillance system. To implement a case management program for suicide attempts, adapted to the DOM TOM specificities, in close collaboration with the ARS (Agences Régionales de Santé) and local hospitals. To assess the efficiency of this program, in terms of (a) suicidal mortality, (b) recurrence of suicidal behaviors, (c) economic aspects, (d) transcultural specificities.
