Dr Machat is a postdoctoral researcher within the team Oncostat at Gustave Roussy Cancer Center, France. He read civil engineering as an undergraduate but changed to computational biology as his interest in health care grew. Indeed, he joined two Master programs in Systems and Synthetic Biology and in Statistical Genetics and Genomics. His grounding in mechanics and biology let him join a PhD in structural bioinformatics at the Pasteur Institute. Then he alternated postdoctoral experiences between statistical genetics and structural biomathematics to acquire a panoramic background in computational biology. Now he wants to put his skills at the disposal of oncology and is working on an exciting project named COsteoMiC, where the state-of-the-art deep learning models are used to enhance the prognosis of pediatric osteosarcoma. Dr Machat won the prize of the best modeling project awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 within the Evry team.
